Many Intermountain Health plans include acupuncture benefits, specifically for chronic lower back pain. Coverage details, visit limits, and authorization requirements vary by plan, so verification is an essential first step before beginning treatment.

Does Intermountain Health Cover Acupuncture?
Many Intermountain Health plans provide coverage for acupuncture when medically necessary for chronic low back pain.
Typically, eligible plans cover up to 20 acupuncture visits per calendar year:
Up to 12 visits are covered within a 90-day period.
Up to 8 additional visits may be covered when treatment remains medically necessary and the patient demonstrates improvement.
Coverage for conditions other than chronic low back pain may not be available under your plan.

Getting started is simple:
Contact your primary care provider (PCP).
Request a referral for acupuncture treatment for chronic low back pain at Path Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine.
Once your referral has been submitted and approved, contact our office with your insurance information.
We verify your benefits and schedule your appointment.
Please note: Patients are responsible for obtaining a referral from their PCP. Our office cannot request referrals on behalf of patients. Referrals must specifically be written for acupuncture treatment of chronic low back pain at Path Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine.
